RoleSummary
The Senior Safety Specialist will coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine and complex construction projects. Responsibilities include conducting safety inspections, identifying and documenting abatement of hazardous conditions, writing reports, performing trend analysis, and supporting the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.
Key Role Responsibilities – Core- Coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine construction projects.
- Conduct regular walk‑through inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with laws and Company policies.
- Conduct safety audits on assigned projects by identifying, documenting and recommending abatement of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions to internal and external clients.
- Utilize internal safety management systems to document findings and track abatement techniques and closure.
- Conduct project‑specific new‑hire orientation and oversee drug and alcohol policy compliance.
- Monitor the implementation of prime contractor and/or subcontractor safety programs.
- Attend project pre‑planning, progress and other relevant project‑related meetings to discuss safety‑related matters.
- Support field leadership in the implementation of the safety program specifics, such as meetings, committees and related activities and chair the project safety committee.
- Assist in the investigation of project‑related accidents, confer with supervisor to determine root cause and discuss recommendations for changes in work processes to eliminate recurrence.
- Coordinate with injured employees and clinics to ensure the worker attends treatment and is returned to work at some capacity in a timely manner; compile progress summary reports of injuries for supervisor.
- Monitor the site safety incentive program.
- Possess a higher level of safety knowledge and identify more complex safety hazards that encompass safety, health and hazardous material matters; provide complex abatements solutions.
- Utilize a higher level of knowledge of equipment, laws and work processes, and apply that knowledge to project‑specific safety recommendations.
- Contribute a higher level of communication skills and play a more active role in meetings.
- Utilize internal safety management systems and tools to perform trend analysis that identifies safety trends and provide recommended solutions to mitigate future occurrences.
- Provide guidance and training on basic and some intermediate safety‑related topics for new or existing safety and project team personnel.
- Assist safety leadership during insurance audits.
- Oversee more complex projects, including one large or complex project and/or multiple projects.
- Manage controlled insurance program projects.
- Develop and implement training strategies and processes to support training objectives.
- Partner with leadership to develop needs assessments, gap analyses and strategic training plans.
- Analyze training needs to develop new and improve existing training programs.
- Develop effective training methods such as digital learning, classroom, skill qualifications and on‑the‑job training.
