Insurance Controller

Overview

This is a hands‑on Controller role reporting directly to the CFO at a well‑established insurance organization based in Tulsa. You’ll own the full accounting function and play a key role in financial leadership, controls, and decision‑making. This role blends strategic oversight with hands‑on execution and is ideal for an accounting leader who thrives in a stable, growing insurance environment. Full relocation is covered.

• Lead all core accounting functions including month‑end close, general ledger, journal entries, and work‑in‑process reporting.
• Own and continuously improve internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
• Partner with the CFO and senior leadership to provide insight into financial performance, trends, and risks.
• Prepare and review financial statements and management reporting.
• Lead quarterly accounting reviews, annual audits, and coordination with external auditors and tax advisors.
• Oversee statutory reporting, tax, treasury, AP, and AR functions.
• Manage cash flow, bank relationships, and working capital requirements.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
• Lead, mentor, and develop accounting teams across multiple functions.
• Drive process improvements, systems enhancements, and special projects as assigned by the CFO or VP Finance.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience within insurance or Big 4 public accounting.
• Insurance industry experience strongly preferred (health insurance or P&C insurance).
• Proven leadership experience managing and developing teams.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, statutory reporting, internal controls, and audit processes.
• Strong communicator who can partner effectively with executive and non‑finance stakeholders.
