The Insurance Verification Specialist confirms insurance coverage, benefits, and authorization requirements prior to admission. The role helps prevent delays, reduces errors, and supports smooth patient flow by ensuring accurate information is obtained up front.
Essential Responsibilities:- Verify insurance coverage and benefits for all incoming patients.
- Review mental health and substance use benefits when applicable.
- Identify prior authorization requirements and notify Utilization Review.
- Enter and update payer information accurately in the EHR.
- Document verification findings clearly and completely.
- Communicate coverage issues or inactive insurance to leadership.
- Work with Admissions, Billing, and UR to resolve discrepancies.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.
- Experience in insurance verification, patient access, or medical billing preferred.
- Comfort with insurance plans, benefits, and authorization processes.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience with EHR or hospital systems preferred.
