Essential

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Priority 1:
    Equity and Inclusion
    • Reflect and understand how identities can confer advantages in the workplace and how power may shift by environment, people, or institutions. Build awareness and compassion to create an equitable and inclusive workplace.
    • Create an inclusive environment where clients and employees feel embraced, respected, engaged, connected to the community, and safe from abuse and harassment.
  • Priority 2:
Immediate Client Safety & Crisis Stabilization
    • Conduct rapid, trauma-informed safety assessments for all walk-ins and crisis calls.
    • Develop individualized safety plans, including emergency shelter options, protective order guidance, and harm-reduction steps.
    • Determine immediate risk (lethality, self-harm, harm to others) and coordinate urgent interventions when needed.
    • Provide same-day emotional support, de-escalation, and grounding techniques to adults in acute distress.
    • Respond promptly to hotline calls, internal transfers, and partner-agency crisis referrals.
    • Ensure warm handoffs between departments (legal, case management, adult and children’s outpatient, safe housing) to prevent re-traumatization from repeating their story.
  • Priority 3:
Documentation, Collaboration & Continuity of Care
    • Complete timely, accurate crisis notes, lethality assessments, and required reports.
    • Coordinate with case managers, law enforcement, hospitals, CPS, and legal advocates to support ongoing safety and stabilize the client’s situation.
    • Engage clients in short-term crisis counseling and link them to ongoing therapy, support groups, or long-term resources.
  • Priority 4:
    Therapy Services
    • Facilitate group therapy for adult survivors, including process- and curriculum-based groups.
    • Maintain a small (3–5) client caseload for ongoing trauma therapy.
    • Draft reports/letters for clients, court, or outside agencies.
    • Document and maintain client files pursuant to DVIS and funding sources (e.g., Medicaid) and licensing standards.
  • Qualifications
    • Strong communication skills (verbal & written), ability to manage sensitive/confidential information, and respond calmly under pressure.
    • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and crisis situations.
    • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar software; experience with electronic client records is a plus.
    • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural responsiveness in service delivery.
    • Knowledge of or experience with social justice issues, specifically intimate partner and gender-based violence, post-traumatic stress, rape trauma, and issues related to race, class, gender, and sexual orientation.

Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or another related mental health field required or related field. Requires 1 year of supervised experience working with clients in a clinical setting (can be obtained during a master-level internship).
