Medical Laboratory Scientist are responsible for testing patient specimens, ensuring accuracy of tests, and communicating results to providers.
Responsibilities- Prepare specimens for testing.
- Test patient specimens, establishing and ensuring acceptable levels of quality control are maintained.
- Ensure requirements of the CAP, AABB, DNV, and FDA (as applicable to section/shift) are followed and in compliance.
- Ensure equipment is operational by performing equipment maintenance, calibrating, and troubleshooting.
- Perform all other duties related to the medical laboratory.

Skills and Abilities- Understands and can articulate correct procedures to accurately identify patients, label specimens, and verify that there is adequate sampling for the testing ordered.
- Proficient use of computer peripherals.
- Clear communicator; speaks, reads, and writes English fluently.
This position has much interaction with nursing staff and other hospital departments.
Physical CapabilitiesStand for long periods of time, walk frequently, stoop, sit, reach, bend, and kneel regularly. The incumbent may also be required to carry items up to 50 pounds. Near visual and color acuity is required.
Environmental/Working ConditionsSubject to environmental changes that may include constant changes in temperature and minimal exposure to cleaning, staining, and testing chemicals.
