Cardiac/Vascular Ultrasound Technologist – Travel Contract

Job Title: Cardiac/Vascular Ultrasound Technologist

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Cardiac/Vascular Ultrasound Technologist to provide high-quality diagnostic cardiac and vascular imaging in a fast-paced hospital environment.

The technologist will perform advanced cardiac and peripheral vascular ultrasound procedures, provide accurate measurements and images for physician interpretation, and assist cardiologists and surgeons with complex cardiac procedures in the OR, Hybrid Lab, Cath Lab, and CAD.

Candidates should have strong cardiac ultrasound experience and be comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with physicians, nurses, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic cardiac and/or peripheral vascular ultrasound procedures.
  • Obtain high-quality images and accurate measurements of cardiac structures.
  • Perform adult and/or pediatric cardiac ultrasound procedures.
  • Perform advanced studies such as:
    • Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE)
    • Stress Echocardiography
    • Peripheral arterial studies
    • Renal vascular studies
    • Transcranial Doppler
  • Review patient history, clinical information, and pertinent data before procedures.
  • Operate ultrasound equipment and utilize appropriate transducers and digital networking systems.
  • Recognize abnormal findings and promptly communicate critical results to physicians and nurses.
  • Provide preliminary findings and immediate feedback when clinically necessary.
  • Assist physicians during complex procedures to help minimize procedural risks.
  • Participate in procedures involving:
    • TAVR
    • SAVR
    • Tandem Heart
    • LARIAT procedures
    • Pseudoaneurysm compression
    • Other complex cardiac interventions
  • Accurately document procedures, measurements, findings, and patient information.
  • Maintain appropriate charging and procedural tracking documentation.
  • Schedule patients efficiently.
  • Support departmental quality assurance and accreditation activities.
  • Maintain equipment, supplies, infection-control standards, and a safe clinical environment.
  • Participate in on-call rotation after regular business hours.
  • Maintain current registry and competency in applicable specialty areas.
Required Qualifications
  • 2–3 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Minimum 6 months of related experience required.
  • At least 1 year of previous travel experience required.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound clinical judgment.
  • Strong critical-thinking and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate cardiac ultrasound findings with cardiologists, surgeons, physicians, and healthcare staff.
  • Willingness to work holidays as required.
  • Must be available for on-call rotation.
Required Certifications & Licensure

Candidates must hold one of the following:

ARDMS:

  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), or
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)

OR

CCI:

  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS), or
  • Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS)

Additional Certification:

  • BLS
Education

Required: High School Diploma or GED

Preferred: Graduate of a Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound or Cardiac Ultrasound certification program.

Preferred Experience

Experience with the following is highly desirable:

  • Impella
  • LVAD
  • Mitral valve procedures
  • TAVR
  • TEE
  • Watchman
