Economic Justice Practice Leader – Still She Rises, Tulsa
OverviewStill She Rises, Inc. (SSR) provides free legal representation to pregnant women, women with children, and women who are child caregivers that have been brought into the criminal and family policing legal systems. SSR seeks highly motivated individuals committed to indigent defense. The Economic Justice Practice advocates for individuals seeking relief from the burdens of criminal records, court debt, and governmental restrictions on employment, housing, and driver licenses.
The Practice Leader will oversee day‑to‑day operations, develop the practice, and ensure alignment with the organization’s strategic goals.
- Direct representation of a limited caseload of clients, including expungement and court‑debt relief matters.
- Collaborate with defense team members—advocates, resource specialists, investigators—to develop and implement comprehensive legal strategies.
- Co‑counsel with other attorneys in multi‑venue representation of mutual clients.
- Supervise the day‑to‑day work of a paralegal and 2–4 attorneys, assigning cases, prioritizing practice goals, and overseeing appearances, hearings, and trials.
- Provide coaching, feedback, and professional development for EJP attorneys.
- Develop and elevate practice standards through innovative motions, arguments, and strategies.
- Create and implement training materials, policies, procedures, and tools for the practice and interdisciplinary teams.
- Identify opportunities for strategic expansion of the scope of EJP representation.
- Invest in the growth and development of all team members and model respect, safety, and inclusion.
- Enforce SSR’s values and promote a culture of belonging for clients and staff.
- At least 5 years of experience in civil legal aid or a related field.
- J.D. from an ABA‑accredited law school.
- Good standing membership in the Oklahoma bar or eligibility for bar admission on motion.
- Experience supervising attorneys.
- Strong litigation, negotiation, research, writing, and courtroom advocacy skills.
- Ability and desire to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to defending indigent individuals charged with criminal offenses in the North Tulsa community.
- Experience and interest in serving racially and socioeconomically oppressed communities.
- Critical thinking and quick decision‑making abilities.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and learning‑orientation skills.

$120,000 plus benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, FSA, and 401(k) with a 4% employer contribution.
