Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor

Reports To

Director of Engineering

General Purpose of Job

Leads and coordinates manufacturing engineering activities to optimize production processes, improve efficiency, and ensure quality standards in the design and assembly of custom machinery. Supervises a team of manufacturing engineers and technicians while serving as a key liaison between engineering, production, and quality departments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise and mentor a team of manufacturing engineers and technicians, providing guidance on technical challenges and professional development.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and facilitate training programs to enhance team skills.
  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes, work instructions, and assembly procedures for machine building operations.
  • Design and implement tooling, fixtures, and jigs to improve assembly efficiency and product quality.
  • Lead process validation and capability studies to ensure manufacturing readiness.
  • Collaborate with design engineering to ensure manufacturability of new machine designs.
  • Support new product introductions from prototype through full production.
  • Manage engineering change orders and ensure proper documentation and implementation.
  • Coordinate with procurement, production, and quality teams to resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Drive lean manufacturing initiatives and 5S implementation throughout the facility.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for quality and production issues.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators for manufacturing operations.
  • Implement cost reduction initiatives while maintaining or improving quality standards.
  • Provide technical expertise to resolve complex manufacturing and assembly challenges.
  • Review and approve fabrication drawings, assembly procedures, and quality control plans.
  • Support production floor with troubleshooting and real-time problem solving.
  • Evaluate and recommend new manufacturing technologies and equipment.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the engineering team.
  • Requires superior interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with employees, staff, management, etc.
  • Must possess superior organizational skills and be able to prioritize and work simultaneously on several projects.
  • Ability to operate within a team atmosphere and lead cross-functional initiatives.
Role Breakdown
  • 40% - Team Leadership & Process Engineering:
    Supervise engineering team, develop manufacturing processes, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • 35% - Manufacturing Support:
    Provide technical support to production floor, troubleshoot issues, and ensure manufacturing readiness for new products.
  • 25% - Project Management & Coordination:
    Manage engineering projects, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and support new product introductions.
Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Engineering Technology.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintaining instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before customers and have good interpersonal skills.
