Overview

To plan, set-up, modify and operate conventional machine tools. This requires the production of parts to exacting tolerances and finishes. Machines to be operated include Engine Lathes, Radial Drill/Mill (Bridgeport, Mecof), TOS Mill & Broach (keyway).

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Plan how operations will be performed on the machine, including part holding and alignment, proper tooling, and reading and following complex blueprints and sketches.
  • Make machine and tooling adjustments for a wide range of parts, operate part and tool probing for accurate measurements, and verify tolerances and finishes with precision measuring instruments.
  • Perform required mathematical computations, select tooling, and ensure process readiness.
  • Readouts to verify program readiness and perform layouts, incidental bench operations, grinding and tool setting for special machining configurations.
  • Assist other machinists in setup and/or training as required.
  • Assist maintenance personnel in maintenance and servicing of the machine; perform minor maintenance such as cleaning and oiling.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area; operate crane, forklift, and other power equipment as needed.
  • Furnish and use own hand tools necessary to perform duties; provide instruction and assistance to others as needed.
  • Set up and operate other assigned machine tools; perform other duties as required and follow safe handling and disposal practices for hazardous waste in compliance with JHA Regulations; maintain knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Work in accordance with established safety practices and facility safety rules; produce quality parts on time and comply with ISO 9000 requirements.
  • All personal tools will follow company RPI calibration requirements.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Completion of two to four years of trade or technical school, or equivalent, with use of advanced shop mathematics and reading of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, formulas, and a wide variety of precision measuring instruments. Must be able to read and write English.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • 3 to 5 years' experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged standing; ability to lift up to 50 lbs; hand-eye coordination; ability to work in hot/cold environments.
