Position

Purpose:

In a team-oriented work environment, under little to no supervision, the Structural Mechanic III performs a variety of structural assembly operations using required tools and appropriate prints, specs, and operational requirements to complete work assignments, ensuring conformance to specifications. All work should be in accordance with company design specifications and quality standards, meeting customer expectations. May assist and instruct other team members.

Job Description

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safely perform assembly and fitting of detail parts and structures, including drilling and riveting operations; ensure parts/assemblies meet requirements.
  • Safely perform sheet metal layout, fabrication, and installation of parts, equipment, or fabricated items on aircraft.
  • Proven ability to adapt to new tasks with minimal impact on schedule.
  • Rivet structural members, assemblies, and parts using all required tools (e.g., riveting guns, pneumatic drills, countersinks, rivet shavers, files, reamers). Ability to remove fasteners without damaging structures.
  • Read work orders, blueprints, lofts, sketches, and operation sheets to determine sequence, rivet size, hole pattern, and follow standard operating procedures for adhesives, sealants, and solvents.
  • Check all work to ensure defect-free assembly prior to final inspection.
  • Instruct and assist team members in interpreting blueprints, drawings, and engineering orders; develop methods and shop aids to resolve production issues.
  • Maintain logs and records (e.g., MIR sheets, DMTs, Crabs, PCOs).
  • Align and assemble parts using jigs, fixtures, pins, clamps, and fasteners. Shape and form complex angles per blueprints or written/verbal instructions.
  • Make repairs per Discrepant Material Tags (DMT), Material Review Requests (MRR), and Production Change Orders (PCO). Perform rework to ensure conformity.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, support 5S & Lean initiatives, and comply with safety regulations, including PPE use.
  • Additional Functions:

  • Participate in continuous improvement activities.
  • Properly use and maintain tools and equipment; return items to the tool room after use.
  • Follow SOPs when operating ground support equipment.
  • Properly dispose of waste fluids and solvents.
  • Ensure accurate daily job charging to the aircraft.
  • Coordinate work activities between shifts via turnover reports and direct contact with leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Other Requirements:

    • Basic computer and shop math skills.
    • Ability to read and understand basic documents and instructions; read scales.
    • Essential personal skills: professional attitude, attention to detail, teamwork, meeting schedules.
    • Skilled in close tolerance work and use of special tools and equipment.
    • Knowledge of working with composite resins and materials.
    • Ability to work any shift, climb ladders, work in small spaces, and lift 50 lbs.
