Assistant Operator
Classification: Hourly
Reports To: Shift Supervisor
Department: Mailer Production
Summary: Under the direction of VP operations and/or Dept Supervisor, oversees hourly employees to ensure the production of the highest quality products at the lowest possible cost, while meeting company standards for quality and performance, customer specifications and delivery requirements, in accordance with Pregis policies and procedures.
Overview: Must have the technical ability to operate all types of full converting line and finishing equipment within Pregis standards for waste, quality, and productivity. Understands and adheres to all Standard Operating Procedures. Set up and operate all special functions and capabilities with minimal supervision or direction. Train other employees when requested or required to do so. Analyze issues, determine, and implement solutions.
Provide innovative/creative solutions for opportunities and/or improvements.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Possess and demonstrate developing leadership qualities; use leadership skills to direct press crews in the efficient operation of the company’s machines.
- Read and understand all information on the job ticket; ensure that all necessary components to produce the job are present and do not proceed with conflicting information.
- Fully understand how to achieve print quality and register equipment; produce required quality and attain acceptable registration within specified M/R standards.
- Understand all technical aspects of press controls; set up and operate splicer, gluer, Straub applicators, label applicators, rotary cutter, register systems, etc.
- Understand tension controls and ancillary equipment; know how to web up the line, set glue rollers, change plates, cylinders, and glue pads; perform minor mechanical repairs and adjustments.
- Perform cleaning as required according to Pregis Standard Operating Procedure 1.01 and as directed by the First operator.
- Fully understand and maintain accurate counts on every job.
- Maintain a safe work environment.

- Exposure to moving equipment.
- Inside work environment.
- Heat may exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Humidity may exceed 80%.
- Noise may exceed 85 dB+.
- Personal Protective Equipment required.
Physical Characteristics:
- Frequent standing and stooping.
- Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling (up to 50 lbs.).
- Occasional typing/keyboarding.
Position Type:
- Full time.

- Overtime expected per business demand.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- 5‑7 years of progressively responsible related experience; or a combination of education and experience.
