Purposeof Position
The Director of Quality, Manufacturing Operations is responsible for developing, deploying, and maintaining all aspects of the quality management system of Flight Safety International’s Simulation Systems division, managing all quality policies, procedures, processes, programs and practices to assure the organization of continuous improvement, conformance and effectiveness with the appropriate standards and regulations.
Tasks and Responsibilities- Direct the quality department team and programs to support the Flight Plan.
- Ensure results in terms of product quality and conformance to regulations and organizational policies; act as Management Representative for Quality.
- Develop and deploy the quality system that ensures product conformance to defined requirements.
- Develop and track key performance indicators.
- Ensure ongoing compliance of the organization’s QMS to existing or new quality standards (ISO 9001, AS 9100, etc.).
- Lead CAPA, continuous process improvement, auditing projects and understand business risk–reward tradeoffs in project management.
- Manage quality documentation, document control practices, and maintain an easy‑to‑use and fast retrieval system for documents, records, forms and work instructions.
- Periodically review the suitability and effectiveness of the quality system with executive management and improve established SOPs, policies and procedures.
- Lead all continuous improvement initiatives for Flight Safety Simulation Systems.
- Manage interactions with customers and regulatory authorities concerning the quality of products, systems and processes.
- Work with purchasing and production in evaluating suppliers and selecting potential suppliers.
- Collaborate with customer service, program managers, marketing and engineering to determine and resolve customer‑initiated actions for improvement.
- Identify and manage continuous improvement projects spanning multiple sections or departments/divisions to achieve quality, reliability and cost improvements.
- Use process mapping techniques such as Lean and/or Six Sigma to reduce waste and improve quality outputs.
- Share improvement ideas and guidance across the Flight Safety International family of businesses/divisions as requested and determined in consultation with executive and senior‑level managers.
- Four‑year degree required in engineering and/or technical discipline.
- Minimum of 12 years of manufacturing/technical business experience.
- Strong project management skills.
- Self‑starter with a desire to drive change throughout the business.
- Customer advocate.
- Certified Black Belt or enrollment in certification program preferred.
- Strong computer skills required, including Access, Word, Excel, JMP (or other stats package), Visio and ERP system utilization.
This position may require access to information that is subject to compliance with the U.S. export regulations including but not limited to the Arms Export Control Act (AECA), International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regulations. For roles subject to these regulations, applicants must qualify as a U.S. Person, or Flight Safety must be granted the appropriate authorization from the governing agencies whose technology and information come under its jurisdiction.
