Utility Crew Member / Equipment Operator Position Summary

A leading infrastructure contractor is seeking 4–5 Utility Crew Members / Operators to support underground utility installation projects across Tulsa and surrounding areas. Crew members will work directly under the Utilities Foreman to install water, sewer, storm, and conduit systems in heavy civil construction environments. This is a hands-on field role requiring strong work ethic, safe operating habits, and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in varying outdoor conditions.

Key Responsibilities Field Operations
  • Assist in the installation of underground utilities, including water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and conduit systems.
  • Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently (e.g., excavators, loaders, skid steers, trenchers).
  • Set pipe, grade, and bedding materials per project specifications.
  • Perform trenching, shoring, back filling, compaction, and site cleanup tasks.
  • Use hand tools and power tools to support daily operations.
Safety & Compliance
  • Attend daily toolbox talks and follow all site safety procedures.
  • Comply with PPE requirements and company safety policies.
  • Identify hazards and report unsafe conditions immediately to the Foreman.
Teamwork & Productivity
  • Carry out work instructions provided by the Utilities Foreman efficiently and accurately.
  • Assist with material handling, equipment spotting, and ground support.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and professional job site.
  • Support the crew to ensure projects stay on schedule and meet quality standards.
Equipment & Tool Care
  • Conduct basic maintenance checks on assigned equipment.
  • Report equipment issues promptly.

Ensure tools and materials are stored properly and accounted for.

Qualifications Experience & Skills
  • 1–3 years of experience in heavy civil construction or utility installation.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment OR willingness to train.
  • Ability to read grades, understand trench depth requirements, and follow layout directions.
  • Familiarity with trench safety, shoring, and confined‑space practices is a plus.
Licenses & Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
  • Must pass pre‑employment drug screening and background check.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English.

  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Reliability—consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Strong awareness of safety.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform strenuous labor.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in trenches.
  • Work outdoors year‑round in heat, cold, rain, and snow.
  • Exposure to moving equipment, dust, materials, and uneven terrain.
