If this sounds like you, consider applying today to join the Department of Labor & Industries (L&I’s), Self Insurance Program as the next Program Support Supervisor 2.

This is your chance to lead our highly specialized Claims Initiation Unit. You will provide supervision, oversight, and encouragement to your team as they go about their daily tasks. You will be responsible for guiding your team as you implement instructions, directions and changes in program policies and procedures, and other activities that demand your team’s time. You will have the opportunity to identify problems and determine a more effective and efficient way for you and your team to provide accurate and timely service to claim managers, injured workers, employers and providers.

Additionally, you will provide training and encourage both technical and professional development that will contribute to your team members’ long-term growth and development.

Why Work for us:

The Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) is a diverse state agency dedicated to the safety, health, and security of Washington's workers. We help employers meet safety and health standards and inspect workplaces when alerted to hazards. As administrators of the state's workers' compensation system, we are similar to a large insurance company providing medical and limited wage-replacement coverage to workers who suffer job-related injuries and illness.

Our rules and enforcement programs help ensure workers are paid what they are owed, that children and teens' work hours are limited, and that consumers are protected from unsound business practices.

Insurance Services is the largest division within the agency and administers one of the premier workers’ compensation organizations in the nation serving over 3.8 million employees working for 260,000 employers.

L&I’s Self Insurance Program certifies self-insurers, monitors, and regulates self-insured employer claim actions which are subject to many statutes, rules and agency policies. The Self-Insurance Program is dedicated to supporting employers and protecting workers by providing impartial oversight and timely, expert services to the self-insured community.

Some of what you will do:

  • Conduct interviews and make recommendations for hiring.
  • Train, mentor and perform work checks of all new employees.
  • Meet regularly with staff, communicate and set work expectations.
  • Provide feedback and identify training needs to enhance the skills of the team while ensuring prompt, courteous service that meets or exceeds the expectations of both internal and external customers.
  • Manage personnel issues, prioritizing and assigning work, and monitoring the success of your team, including ensuring production and quality levels are met by reviewing production reports and performing monthly QA on initiated claims.
  • Identify and manage backlogs.
  • Work collaboratively with other supervisors and program leadership to build camaraderie and to provide consistent services throughout the program.
