Medical Technologist Responsibilities
- Supervision
- Assists supervisor with scheduling, quality control, and maintenance programs, workflow organization.
- Serves on interview teams.
- Distribution and Transportation
- Assures accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment, and specimens.
- Follows all laws and regulations in the processing and transportation of laboratory specimens.
- Specimen Handling & Processing
- Follows regulatory guidelines in handling/processing of laboratory specimens.
- Follows proper policy for accurate patient identification and labeling of all specimens.
- Communicates effectively with all NMHS staff, patients, their family members and customers.
- Uses AIDET as applicable, attends CARES training, and ensures proper service recovery for patients and/or caregivers; answers telephone politely and efficiently.
- Works as part of a team with all Pathology and NMHS employees.
- Maintains accurate and timely reporting of department testing and performance improvement initiatives; documents instrument monthly maintenance and quality control.
- Assists with training students and new employees; participates in continuing education and stays abreast of regulatory changes.
- Adheres to NMHS/NMMC policies, local/state/federal regulations, and CAP & CLSI standards.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological Science or related field.
- ASCP Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
- Minimum of 2 years laboratory experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist.
- Valid Mississippi Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
- Proficient skills with LIS.
- Good organizational and communication (written and verbal) skills.
- Knowledge of handling biohazardous specimens.
