Certified Medical Assistant, Retina Clinic
Join North Mississippi Health Services as a Certified Medical Assistant in our Retina Clinic. The role involves providing comprehensive patient care, ensuring efficient documentation and compliance with regulatory standards.
Job SummaryThe Medical Assistant will escort patients, conduct interviews, measure vital signs, perform treatments, administer medication, maintain accurate records in the electronic health record (EHR), schedule testing and referrals, and support physicians and nurses. Strong communication, organization, and adaptability are essential.
Responsibilities- Assist smooth patient flow by escorting patients to exam rooms.
- Interview patients, record vital signs, and document all information in the patient’s chart/EHR.
- Perform treatments, tests, or procedures as directed.
- Administer medication per physician orders.
- Accurately and efficiently document patient care and status.
- Receive and refer patient records from external sources to physicians or nurse practitioners.
- Screen and handle incoming telephone calls.
- Schedule patient testing, consults, and referrals.
- Provide patient/family teaching for continuing care post-discharge.
- Maintain supplies necessary for quality patient care.
- Participate in performance improvement activities (EXCEL).
- Adhere to NMHS/NMMC policies and state/federal regulations.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent (required).
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) – NCTT (required upon hire).
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – AAMA (required upon hire).
- 1‑3 years in a healthcare setting; minimum 1 year required, preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology (required).
- Experience with Electronic Health Record systems (preferred).
- CPR certification (American Heart Association) required.
- Strong written and verbal communication (required).
- Excellent organizational skills (required).
- Basic computer and software proficiency (required).
- Professionalism, integrity, and flexibility.
- Ability to prioritize workflow and work independently or as part of a team.
