The Environmental Services Technician I is responsible for creating a clean and safe environment to support the delivery of high quality care by performing daily and special cleaning that meets departmental procedure, safety, and infection control standards. The Technician remains adaptable and flexible to support team needs as they arise and participates in ongoing professional development.

• Performs daily cleaning of assigned areas (patient rooms, bathrooms, emptying and cleaning trash receptacles, high dusting, sanitizing and spot cleaning, inspection and cleaning of empty patient rooms daily, washing and disinfecting hospital walls and ceilings) according to the standard operating procedures of the department.
• Performs cleaning duties (including special cleaning and other area assignments) according to the standard operating procedures of the department.
• Adheres to general safety and infection control standards.
• Performs responsibilities in a timely, efficient, cost effective, confidential and professional manner conducive with the overall mission/vision of the hospital.
• Performs other duties as assigned while demonstrating willingness, ability, and team spirit to provide optimal customer satisfaction.
• Attends, demonstrates, and participates in required in services, performance improvement activities (including EXCEL), and other educational programs.

• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.

• None specified.

• Previous experience in the hospital setting preferred.

• Ability to read, write, and communicate both verbally and in writing; highly desired.
• Good communication skills to effectively communicate with inter and intra departmental employees, patients and their family members, physicians, and the public; highly desired.
• Must demonstrate knowledge and skills needed to proficiently provide service to a customer population including neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
• Must assume primary accountability for performing daily cleaning of assigned areas (patient rooms, bathrooms, emptying and cleaning trash receptacles, high dusting, sanitizing and spot cleaning, inspection and cleaning of empty patient rooms daily, washing and disinfecting hospital walls and ceilings).
• Must perform assigned cleaning duties (including special cleaning and other area assignments) according to the standard operating procedures of the department.
• Must prioritize and make suggestions to supervisor regarding periodical cleaning in assigned areas.
• Must assume responsibility for reporting safety hazards and cleaning emergency spills when sighted.
• Must perform responsibilities in a timely, efficient, cost effective, confidential and professional manner.
• Must have extensive contact with inter and intra departmental personnel, patients and their family members, physicians, and public.
• Must have good communication skills and reflect a positive, caring attitude toward both staff and the public.
