The Nursing Assistant/Unit Coordinator at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for providing routine patient care, coordinating nursing unit activities to support an effective and positive patient experience. This role requires strong organizational and communication skills to complete clerical and administrative duties, support inventory and document management, maintain accurate records, and facilitate information and communication across physicians, patients, and visitors to promote smooth and effective operational function.
Responsibilities- Coordinate the activities of the nursing unit efficiently and effectively.
- Assist with admissions, discharges, transfers, and changes within the unit using the electronic patient tracking system and electronic medical record.
- Perform clerical duties within and in support of the assigned unit; manage intake and outbound documents and handle communications.
- Answer patients’ call lights/requests and route requests to appropriate personnel.
- Provide routine patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and assist with activities of daily living (personal hygiene, grooming, mobility, comfort).
- Coordinate daily patient care activities and assist nursing staff with admissions, discharges, and transfers.
- Support inventory control by ordering, stocking, and replenishing unit supplies and equipment in a cost-efficient manner.
- Communicate patient information and concerns to appropriate interdisciplinary team members; facilitate communication among visitors, employees, and physicians within the unit.
- Greet, assist, and provide a safe and clean environment for patients, visitors, and staff; answer phones and direct inquiries as appropriate.
- Document care provided using worksheets and/or the electronic medical record; maintain unit-specific records and reports.
- Adhere to professional standards, hospital policies, and applicable laws/regulations; maintain patient confidentiality.
Education
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
Licenses and Certifications
CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation
Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of computers and software programs; required. Working knowledge of office equipment; required. Excellent organizational and communication skills; required. Knowledge of medical terminology; preferred. Must have excellent interpersonal skills; required. Previous nursing assistant experience preferred but not required. Must be able to read and write. Ability to multi-task and prioritize; report and document using worksheets and the electronic medical record.
Requires frequent interaction with patients, family members, nurses, physicians, visitors, and other staff. Must reflect a positive, caring attitude and have excellent customer service skills, both in person and by phone.
