Overview
Trail Program Coordinator under the Resource Management Division stationed in Tupelo, Mississippi.
Responsibilities- Trail maintenance and repairs; operation and maintenance of trail equipment.
- Marking trails to meet public needs; delivering trail materials and supplies to work locations.
- Responding to trail problems reported by visitors (e.g., downed timber).
- Planning and coordinating Public Land Corps youth group and volunteer projects to accomplish trail maintenance and rehabilitation.
- Conducting trail assessments using GIS software to document conditions, create maps, analyze needs, and develop plans to correct deficiencies.
- Planning short- and long-term trail management goals, funding requests, creating scopes of work, cost estimates, and implementing projects through contracts, partnership agreements, or volunteer efforts.
- Obtaining a Contracting Officers Technical Representative (COR) and Agreements Technical Representative (ATR) certificate after onboarding.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.

- Valid driver’s license required with governmental or private motor‑vehicle operation.
- Uniform required, allowance provided.
- Travel up to 2 nights per month; government charge card for travel.
- Completion of required training and maintenance of travel/purchase authority.
Experience (GS‑09 grade level)
- At least one full year of specialized experience comparable to GS‑07 in the Federal service or equivalent in public/private sector, including trail program management, agreements and partnership development, crew management, grant writing, and budgeting.
- Include hours per week worked.
Education Options
- Master’s degree or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such degree OR LL.B./J.D. related to the position (transcripts required).
- Combination of education and experience per the description.
Volunteer Experience
- Volunteer work through National Service programs (Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) or other organizations considered qualifying experience for the role.
Submit legible copies of transcripts from all relevant institutions. Transcripts may be unofficial, but official copies are required before start of employment. Transcripts should include institution name, credit hours, course level, majors, and GPA or class ranking.
Physical DemandsRequires considerable physical exertion, including lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds. Moderate risks such as falling trees and loose rocks may occur.
Working ConditionsWork occurs outdoors in moderate weather and natural hazard environments. Safety precautions are required when working around fallen trees, loose rocks, and machinery.
