The Nurse Practitioner at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients in hospital settings while adhering to established standards and protocols. This position provides patient education, maintains accurate documentation, and ensures clinical competence through continuing education. The Nurse Practitioner demonstrates leadership, works independently, exercises professional judgment, and maintains effective relationships with colleagues, patients, and families to ensure high‑quality, cost‑efficient patient care.
This role requires being on call and working evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed and functions at the top of their license in the absence of a physician when necessary.
- Patient Care: Assesses, diagnoses, and treats patients in the hospital setting according to the scope of practice, board protocols, and national standards; remains on call and works night, evening, weekend, and holiday rotations; functions similarly to a physician in their assigned area in the absence of a professional.

Education:
Provides patients and/or family members with education related to disease processes, health, and wellness; serves as a resource for community agencies as appropriate. - Documentation: Ensures timely and accurate documentation of patient status, care activities, treatments, procedures, and medications prescribed.
- Continuing
Education:
Ensures clinical competence; stays abreast of changes in medical management; participates in a variety of health‑care education activities. - Regulation: Adheres to NMHS/NMMC policies, procedures, guidelines; complies with applicable local, state, federal policies and regulations.
- Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing – required.
- Licenses and
Certifications:
AANP or ANCC in state as a Nurse Practitioner – required upon hire (preferred). - Work Experience: 1–3 years as an RN – required; minimum 3 years of clinical experience as an RN – preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Maintains working knowledge of current technology.
- Interaction with patients ranging from neonates to geriatrics.
- Assesses, diagnoses, and treats patients in the clinic setting.
- Ability to work without close supervision.
- Organizes multiple tasks and maintains workflow control.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with HIPAA.
- Accurate diagnosis and treatment of patient conditions.
- Stays abreast of health‑care system changes, trends, and medical management.
- Provides quality care in the most cost‑efficient manner.
- Performs patient care activities within scope of practice and physician preceptor direction.
