Overview

- Coordinate and oversee the daily clinical operations for a nursing unit. Ensures that staffing levels and coverage are adequate to meet patient care and regulatory requirements.
- Serves as educator, trainer, mentor and lead for nursing staff.
- Assist Nurse Manager with performance evaluations and maintain systems to provide regular feedback and evaluation for employees (e.g., 90-day evaluations, mid-year coaching, year-end evaluations).
- Work closely with nursing leadership and ancillary departments to maintain a positive patient- and family-centered care environment within NMHS and its affiliates.
- Collaborate with clinical nurse educator to coordinate, schedule, and assist in educational classes and other training needs related to staff development.
- 24-hour accountability for supervising and evaluating work performance in terms of patient care, unit relations, and efficiency of service; make decisions requiring expert clinical judgment.
- Monitor clinical practice, expense control, DNV readiness, and facilities professional appearance.
- Oversee and approve inventory management and supply orders in accordance with system policy and procedures within limits of authority.
- Coordinate and promote staff development, quality services, and mandatory in-services.
- Assist clinical nurse educator in chart audits and meet with employees individually to coach for improvement and continuously monitor staff.
- Assist in assessment, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of performance improvement projects.
- Act as a liaison between staff and other disciplines to assist in problem solving and information transfer to improve patient care; serve as a clinical resource for staff in assigned areas.
- Create and maintain good rapport within Nursing Services, ancillary departments, affiliates and other health services. Maintain communication with multi-disciplinary team members to provide holistic care to patients. Remain available to staff after typical work hours and as needed 24 hours/day.
- Maintain and review educational records of assigned floor employees, including orientation competency, initial competencies, annual reviews, and certifications.
- Maintain updated policies and operating manuals for the unit.
- Compile data, generate and maintain required records, reports and statistics as directed.
- Perform basic clinical audits and report quality results to Nurse Manager and Director.
