Registered Nurse - Stroke Unit - Variable Shifts at North Mississippi Health Services

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse provides safe, quality patient care using the nursing process, maintains effective communication with the multidisciplinary team, and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. The role requires leadership in prioritizing, delegating, and evaluating work assignments, along with strong problem-solving abilities to respond to changing patient needs.

• Use the nursing process to provide safe, quality patient care and document accordingly.
• Ensure compliance with NMHS policies and requirements as directed by the Nurse Manager and Educator.
• Provide patient and family education and act as a resource for existing staff and new employees; participate in Preceptor training as needed.
• Maintain communication with multidisciplinary team members to provide holistic patient care.
• Attend daily unit huddles to review assignments and identify team members for the shift.
• Project a caring, friendly, and professional image to patients and other customers.
• Use the patient communication board to keep patients and families informed about name, date, goals, and procedures or tests for the day.
• Stay informed of changing trends in nursing practice and maintain competency through ongoing education.
• Comply with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements and hold an active RN license in the state (or equivalent state licensure).

• Education
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing (RN) — Required
• Licenses & Certifications
  • RN license — Must be licensed to practice as a RN (state licensure and/or compact state licensure) — Required
  • CPR — Must maintain a current CPR certification (ACLS or other specific requirements may be dependent on hiring department) — Required
  • ACLS, TB, PALS, ASLS, NIH Stroke Scale — Dependent on hiring department; some may be Required or Preferred
• Experience & Skills
  • Effective communication and teaching skills — Required
  • Ability to prioritize, delegate, and evaluate work assignments — Required
  • General knowledge of regulatory and accrediting standards — Required
  • Ability to orient and train new employees and report progress to the charge nurse or nurse manager — Required
