Job Summary

The Graduate Registered Nurse at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for using the nursing process to provide safe, quality patient care, communicating effectively with the multidisciplinary team, and complying with regulatory requirements. The role requires effective leadership skills, problem‑solving abilities, and the ability to respond to rapidly changing patient needs.

Clinical Practice & Job Functions
  • Uses the nursing process to provide safe, quality patient care and documents accordingly.
  • Ensures compliance with all NMHS policies and requirements as directed by the Nurse Manager and Educator.
  • Provides patient and family education and acts as a resource for existing staff and new employees.
  • Participates in the preceptor class to ensure proper training of new employees.
  • Maintains communication with the multidisciplinary team to provide holistic patient care.
  • Attends daily huddles on each unit to ensure proper assignments and identify team members for the shift.
  • Projects a caring, friendly, and helpful image to patients and other customers.
  • Utilizes the patient’s communication board (whiteboard) to identify name, date, goals, other staff, and procedures or tests for the day to keep patients and families informed.
  • Complies with NMHS behavioral standards.
  • Maintains competency by staying informed of changing trends in nursing practice.
  • Attends annual reviews and unit‑specific assessments within the department.
  • Performs required continuing‑education hours online and in classroom settings.
  • Complies with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
  • Is licensed by the Board of Nursing for the state.
Qualifications
  • Education: Associate’s Degree in Nursing (required).
  • Licenses and

    Certifications:

    RN state licensure or Compact; CPR; NIH Stroke Scale Certification; PALS.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Mains department requirements for continuing education and any specific unit requirements to provide appropriate age‑specific care.
    • Demonstrates effective communication and teaching skills.
    • Has general knowledge of various regulatory and accrediting standards.
    • Prioritizes, delegates, and evaluates work assignments.
    • Anticipates resources needed.
    • Assimilates data and reports appropriately.
    • Orientates new employees to the unit and reports progress to the charge nurse or nurse manager.
    • The incumbent has routine contact with physicians, ancillary personnel, other nursing personnel, patients, family and visitors.
    • The incumbent must demonstrate effective interpersonal skills to all customers/co‑workers, and in all aspects of patient care and job performance.
