The Registered Nurse assumes primary leadership accountability for milieu management and directing patient care activities of other nursing staff. The RN maintains professional standards, administers medications, documents care, and ensures compliance with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations.
Essential Functions- Utilize the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation; develop individualized care plans.
- Identify risk levels and conduct discharge planning; implement interventions and evaluate effectiveness.
- Demonstrate knowledge of psychiatric disorders and appropriate nursing interventions.
- Administer medications safely; educate patients on medication usage and monitor adverse reactions.
- Maintain professionalism, accountability, and quality nursing care.
- Review, update, and document medical records according to facility guidelines.
- Follow up on client care responsibilities and communicate needs to staff.
- Delegate staff duties responsibly and act as advocate for patient safety.
- Utilize nursing knowledge to enhance evidence‑based practice.
- Float among various clinical services and perform assigned duties and projects.
- Current, valid, active RN license in the state of employment; valid Compact licences acceptable.
- Minimum of an Associate Degree in Nursing.
- One year of inpatient hospital experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to adapt in high‑stress environments and assess patient escalation risk.
- Excellent oral and written communication; organizational skills; cultural sensitivity.
- Critical thinking and continuous improvement focus.
- Self‑confidence and leadership skills.
- CPR certification and completion of approved behavioral health de‑escalation program.
12‑hour rotating shifts, high‑paced stress, interruptions and unpredictable patient behavior. Requires coping mentally and physically, spending majority time indoors.
