Job Summary
The Security Shift Leader at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for coordinating Security officer activities and duties to ensure the security of the facility, personnel, patients, and visitors. This role collaborates with the Senior Director and provides guidance and leadership to Security Officers, utilizing strong communication and organizational skills to plan, orchestrate, and document security activities and Security Officer development, monitor the NMHS facility, and enforce all applicable policies, procedures, and laws to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
The Security Shift Leader also remains flexible and adaptable to perform the Security Officer role and other duties as needed to support an effective security function.
- Coordinates the work of personnel responsible for policing hospital grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, bodily injury, and illegal entry.
- Performs the job of Security Officer when required.
- Reports to Security Director regarding Security Officers’ performance and keeps the Security Director informed of department activities.
- Plans, coordinates, and documents security activities in accordance with hospital policies and procedures established by various legal and regulatory accrediting bodies.
- Performs other related duties that may be assigned by the Security Director and/or Hospital Administrator.
- Associate’s Degree or higher in Criminal Justice or related (Required).
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent; willing to accept a High School Diploma with 4 years of experience beyond the minimum requirement (Required).
- IAHSS - Certification as a Security Officer.
- Driver’s License, valid and in state (DL Number).
- 4-6 years of experience, including 3-5 years of supervisory experience (Required).
- Co‑monitors departmental goals and budget.
- Co‑interviews, trains, and evaluates all personnel on assigned shifts.
- Produces concise, accurate, well‑written reports.
- Serves as a “Role Model” while promoting, enforcing, and adhering to policies, procedures, and employee guidelines.
- Interacts with all departments as well as patients, visitors, and vendors.
- Maintains a professional relationship with all law enforcement agencies.
- Maintains a good uniform appearance and professional attitude.
