Job ProfileField Service Technicians are responsible for preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repair, and service of Caterpillar diesel powered construction equipment. This skilled field service mechanic works largely independently, traveling with a company‑provided field service truck to a variety of customer locations and service shops. A Technician reports to a Branch Manager and serves customers throughout the region.
Basic Requirements- Field Service Technician training and/or equipment service and maintenance training from accredited technical schools, equipment dealerships, or manufacturer training preferred. High school diploma required.
- Five (5) or more years of experience with equipment diagnostics and advanced troubleshooting on construction equipment. Candidates with limited equipment experience but strong engine experience will be considered.
- Able to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends and on‑call hours as required, and must work independently in remote locations.
- Must demonstrate professionalism, integrity, adaptability, and a strong customer service focus.
- Demonstrates a sense of urgency and self‑initiative, and the personal drive to be successful.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Possess and maintain a current, valid state driver’s license with a current DOT medical card as required for operating service trucks and for towing.
- Must have a basic set of industrial tools, including industrial hand tools, air tools, torque wrenches, and multimeters.
- Able to travel in an assigned region, work overtime, weekends, and holidays, sometimes with short notice. Overnight travel may occasionally be required (averaging up to 25%).
- Read and interpret technical instructions, safety manuals, service manuals, company policies and procedures.
- Work with electric/electronic and hydraulic system schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment service manuals; proficient in test equipment.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and high‑quality repair service on construction equipment, engines, and power trains to respond to customer needs promptly, safely, and timely.
- Communicate with customers to provide an exceptional customer experience.
- Follow all Company and customer safety rules and maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area.
- Respond to all customer requests in a professional, courteous, and timely manner.
- Maintain a clean, professional personal appearance at all times, meeting all Company standards for professionalism.
- Support the organization’s mission, vision, and values by exhibiting honesty, integrity, respect, and a positive attitude.
- Maintain confidentiality and attend all required meetings, training, and activities.
