Overview
Accountants apply knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of the accounting profession, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), in classifying, examining, and analyzing financial transactions.
Position SummaryTwo (2) full-time positions available on or after November 10, 2025 in Financial Services. Under general direction of the University Accounting Manager, incumbents perform the full range of professional accounting that involves the application of accounting principles and practices to the resolution of a variety of accounting functions or problems. Work is performed with greater independence of judgment and action than the lower level.
Responsibilities- Assure the proper recording and documentation of financial transactions and contribute to audit process.
- Prepare, analyze, and interpret financial reports, statements, and records including balance sheet, income statement analysis, month-end, and year-end close processes.
- Make financial projections and budget projections.
- Examine documents for conformance to policies, procedures, and GAAP.
- Compute and estimate the effect of proposed changes on operating programs or accounting operations.
- Research and conduct extensive financial data compilation, querying, and drilling on large volumes of data.
- Use integrated financial systems and/or other records management systems.
- Develop financial statements and reports.
- Interpret new and existing federal and state regulations related to the assigned area.
- Identify actual or potential problems and recommend corrective action.
- Provide initial troubleshooting of financial systems and participate in upgrades, testing, and verification of results.
- Analyze account balances and reconcile to external data (including student accounts receivable).
- Provide consultative services to campus administrators in resolving accounting problems.
- Recommend and document changes to business processes, standards, and procedures; may train or guide other staff.
- May provide support to other areas/departments as needed and may supervise or direct other professional/technical staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Education:
Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, business administration, finance, or a closely related field, or a combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. - Experience:
Equivalent to two years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience.
- Prior experience in higher education or CSU setting.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and People Soft.
- Experience preparing ad-hoc financial reports using database query tools (e.g., PS Query or St analytics).
- Experience preparing and analyzing reconciliations and journal entries.
- Experience with complex fund accounting in a multi-fund environment.
- Thorough knowledge of GAAP and office methods/procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of statistical and mathematical data presentation.
- Advanced proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, browsers, query tools, and integrated financial systems.
- General understanding of internal control methods and federal student financial aid reporting requirements.
- Ability to interpret instructions, analyze financial data, and draw conclusions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to apply accounting principles to analyze complex problems and prepare clear financial statements and reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including conveying technical information to non-accountants.

Salary and Benefits- Anticipated salary will be $5,178 - $5,495 per month plus excellent paid benefits. Salary will depend on the qualifications of the successful finalist. (Full range: Step 1 $ 5,178 - $7,543 per month)
