The Turlock Police Department is offering incentives for Police Officer I and Police Officer II positions. The extended instructors will receive a total incentive ranging from $6,000-$10,000 for Police Officer I and $15,000-$20,000 for a lateral Police Officer.

Incentive Breakdown
  • Police Officer I (Academy Trainee/Graduate)
    • $3,000 at swearing‑in date.
    • $3,000 upon completion of 3 years of service from swearing‑in date.
    • Veteran (honorably discharged) – Additional $4,000 ($7,000 total) upon completion of 3 years of service.
  • Lateral Police Officer (PO II) – Incentive ranging from $15,000-$20,000
    • $5,000 upon swearing‑in date.
    • $5,000 upon completion of probation.
    • $5,000 upon completion of 3 years of service.
    • Veteran (honorably discharged) – Additional $5,000 ($10,000 total) upon completion of 3 years of service.

ANNUAL BASE SALARY RANGE

  • POLICE OFFICER I: $6,187.00 - $7,520.00
  • POLICE OFFICER II: $7,163.00 - $8,705.00

The position of Police Officer I/II is assigned to perform law enforcement and crime prevention work; enforce State and local traffic regulations, conduct comprehensive criminal investigations on special assignments, and perform related duties as assigned. This designation is governed by the T.A.P.O. bargaining unit and is subject to additional overtime, standby, call‑back and shift assignments.

Essential Functions Operations
  • Patrol assigned areas in vehicles, on foot, motorcycle or bicycle.
  • Analyze and solve community/neighborhood problems involving the protection and preservation of life, property, and enforcement of City, County and State laws.
  • Conduct investigations of disturbances, prowlers, burglaries, thefts, robberies, juvenile crimes, domestic violence, sexual assaults, vehicle accidents, and deaths.
  • Direct traffic and regulate traffic flow during emergencies or congestion.
  • Work shift schedules:
    Days, Swings, Graveyard.
  • Testify in court as needed.
  • Provide traffic enforcement, including arrests and issuance of citations.
  • Respond to and provide assistance from other law enforcement agencies in emergencies.
  • Collect and store evidence for court presentation.
  • Prepare detailed reports of arrests, investigations, and illegal incidents.
  • Proactively patrol business districts and residential neighborhoods at all times of day and night.
  • Provide direction and information to the public.
  • Process and care for prisoners.
  • Establish and maintain positive contact with citizens regarding potential community problems, suspicious people, and circumstances.
  • Assist with Neighborhood Watch and Business Watch meetings.
  • Counsel at‑risk youth and assist with diversion programs and press relations.
  • Serve as School Resource Officer as assigned.
  • Assist with licensing, building maintenance, permit issuance, or other assignments.
  • Work with a team of officers in a specialized street crime suppression unit (C‑Team).
  • Participate in community recreation activities.
Investigations
  • Investigate, collect, and preserve evidence from crime scenes and accident sites.
  • Interview and interrogate witnesses, victims, and suspects.
  • Locate suspects, make arrests, and seize criminal evidence.
  • Prepare detailed investigation reports and testimonies for court.
  • Interview merchants and the public to obtain suspect descriptions and statements.
  • Serve as an undercover agent for vice and narcotic investigations.
  • Conduct background investigations on officer or civilian applicants.
  • Cooperate with other agencies on assigned investigative duties.
  • Consult with supervisor on case progress and problems.
  • Work with the Turlock drug enforcement team or other task forces, including:
    • Stanislaus County Drug Enforcement Unit
    • Stanislaus County Gang Intelligence Task Force
    • Sacramento Valley Hi‑Tech Crimes Task Force
    • Stanislaus County Auto Theft Task Force
