Position
Description:
Full-time temporary position available on or after March 1, 2026 for Athletic Communications. Appointment will be made for one year from date of hire with the possibility of reappointment and/or becoming permanent based on budget, department needs, and job performance.
- Develop and implement sports information and media relations programs of moderate scope and complexity under general supervision.
- Serve as a media liaison, coordinate press conferences and media interviews, and produce content for communication platforms (websites, social media, and game-day programs).
- Produce statistics, rosters, and recaps; ensure communications comply with NCAA and Conference rules.
- Provide input on publicity and marketing initiatives; analyze statistical summaries for coaches, media, and conferences.
- Provide lead work direction to staff and student employees; collaborate with university communications; stay current with industry best practices.
- Create accurate and engaging content for athletics website, social media platforms, and printed/game-day programs.
- Produce or oversee game-day materials, including rosters, statistics, and recaps.
- Conduct interviews and background research to develop feature stories and press releases.
- Manage official athletics social media accounts, including scheduling, posting, monitoring, and follower engagement.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive social media calendar to support messaging and engagement.
- Collaborate with photographers, designers, and contributors to produce multimedia content (photos, videos, graphics).
- Track performance using web analytics and social media metrics; apply insights to improve reach and impact.
- Coordinate game-day operations, including media credentialing, press box/media area setup, and technical logistics.
- Ensure live statistics and event summaries are accurate and timely; compile, analyze, and distribute statistical reports for coaches, media, conferences, and historical records.
- Support real-time event coverage through live updates, statistics, and recaps.
- Oversee and train student assistants assigned to statistical reporting and event coverage.
- Troubleshoot operational and technical issues during athletic events to ensure smooth communications delivery.
- Set up, operate, and monitor live streaming of athletic events; coordinate with technical staff, vendors, or platforms to support broadcasts.
- Provide real-time support for statistical integration, graphics, and audio/video feeds during live streams; ensure compliance with conference and NCAA streaming requirements.
- Serve as contact and media liaison for media inquiries related to the Athletics Department; coordinate press conferences and media coverage with university communications staff.
- Represent Athletics as on-site communications lead during live events, including coordinating timely media access and post-game interviews; ensure consistency of athletics brand identity across channels.
- Provide input for publicity, branding, and marketing initiatives to enhance program visibility; collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide lead work direction to student employees and less experienced staff; recommend and implement process improvements.
- Support promotional campaigns and community engagement initiatives; stay current with industry best practices, NCAA requirements, and streaming technology.
- May be required to obtain additional training/certification; may provide support to other areas within the department as needed.
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.
- Experience
:
Two (2) years of relevant experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. - Education
:
Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Additional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or closely related field.
- Relevant experience in a CSU or higher education setting.
- Prior experience in sports information at an NCAA Division II (or higher) program, including writing official athletics communications such as media press releases.
- Knowledge of NCAA, CCAA, CSU, and university reporting requirements.
- Experience with game-day marketing and promotions.
- Proficiency in sports information software (e.g., ARMS, Pixellot, Blue Frame, Stat Crew, SIDEARM, The Automated Scorebook).
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities include: strong communication, organizational, and leadership capabilities; ability to manage multiple projects; familiarity with statistics and sports terminology; and experience with digital media management tools.
