We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Relief (PRN) Veterinarian who thrives in a fast‑paced environment for a hybrid role covering both Large and Small Animal medicine. The position is located at our highly in‑demand Taylor Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Turlock, CA.
As a Relief Veterinarian you will work alongside experienced veterinarians, technicians, and support staff, collaborating with the Hospital Manager and Regional Manager to provide high‑quality, compassionate veterinary care. The facility is a 24‑hour emergency center in an 8,500‑sq‑ft building equipped with state‑of‑the‑art equipment, including a Snyder O2 unit, digital & portable x‑ray, endoscope, two fully equipped ORs, five exam rooms, a skills lab, ultrasound, and a remodeled Idexx lab.
Key responsibilities include comprehensive patient exams, client communication, diagnostics, surgery, accurate record‑keeping, controlled‑substance pharmacy duties, teamwork promotion, and daily hospital oversight.
Compensation: $1,600 – $2,400 per week.

- Pharmacy duties such as prescribing medications and following controlled substance protocols
- Promoting teamwork and staff efficiency
- Working with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations
- Evaluating and monitoring protocols for daily hospital operations from intake to discharge
- Monitoring cases and attending daily rounds to ensure high standards are upheld
- Participating in practice‑management updates and training at all levels
- Performing other duties as assigned by Management
- Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university
- Current State Veterinary License
- DEA registration obtained and maintained
- At least 1 year of experience in a veterinary emergency practice
- Strong diagnostic and clinical skills
- Excellent surgical and dental skills
- Ability to work well in a team‑oriented environment
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Commitment to providing compassionate and high‑quality veterinary care
- Client communication skills, including eliciting information and establishing rapport
- Confidence and reassurance when dealing with stressed, ill, or painful pets
- Physical ability to perform tasks such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
- Capacity to lift up to 50 pounds
- Advanced clinical knowledge and skill in comprehensive examinations and diagnosis
- Problem‑solving ability for high‑quality hospital management
- Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and staff
- Professionalism and constructive feedback within a veterinary team
- Business acumen related to veterinary practice management and finances
