Job Summary

The Procurement Specialist I supports the formal competitive bid process, development of contracts, service agreements, leases and other written legal agreements under general supervision. Procures items or services in an assigned commodity area at the best total value. Obtains quotations and enters into negotiations with suppliers as necessary. Ensures compliance with University policies, guidelines, and the State of Alabama Bid Law.

Required

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher and some experience in procurement, purchasing, and/or buying.

Skills and Knowledge
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of contract law.
  • Basic accounting skills.
  • Ability to organize work and time in an efficient manner.
  • Proficient computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to support continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business or procurement-related field.
