Position SummaryThe Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) and the Lee J. Styslinger Jr. College of Engineering at The University of Alabama (UA) invite applications for an Assistant Professor position in the area of Transportation Engineering.
Detailed Position InformationThe CCEE Department is seeking candidates in the area of Transportation Engineering who can contribute to the department’s strengths and expand the scope of research within the department, college, and UA. Candidates are expected to advance safety, efficiency, and sustainability of transportation systems through innovative planning, design, and operations. Desired expertise includes transportation safety, human behaviour, sustainable mobility solutions, transportation planning, intelligent transportation systems, data analytics, and automation.
The CCEE Department offers accredited B.S. degrees and multiple minors. Undergraduate enrollment is nearly 800; graduate enrollment is nearly 120.
Faculty must demonstrate the potential to develop and lead a highly productive research group and collaborate with existing faculty both within the CCEE Department and across the campus.
Teaching expectations include developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, and supporting core degree program accreditation.
All appointments will be based on the university’s personnel requirements and the goal of maintaining excellence.
Minimum Qualifications- Earned Ph.D. in Architectural, Civil, Construction or Environmental Engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated record of prior research work and impactful scholarly publications in refereed journals, conference proceedings, and similar venues.
- Demonstrated interest and/or record in engineering education and professional service in area(s) of specialization.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Show the potential to construct and sustain a quality research program.
- Exhibit the potential for excellent teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Applicants must also meet all university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor.
Preferred Qualifications- Demonstrated a record of high‑quality research and scholarly publications recognized nationally and/or internationally.
- A record of scholarship in architectural, civil, construction, or environmental engineering with both undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Post‑doctoral experience or other similar post‑graduate experience.
- Attainment, progress toward, or demonstrated interest in professional licensure or other applicable professional certification (FE or PE).
- Exceptional collegial, interpersonal, and mentoring skills.

(1) Cover letter that includes the department name, rank of position, and specialty area for which the candidate is applying,
(2) Resume/Curriculum Vitae,
(3) 4‑to‑6 page statement of research interests and plans,
(4) One‑to‑two page statement of teaching interests and plans,
(5) Names and contact information for at least four references.
