ABOUTTHE ROLE
Our Client is seeking an Assignment Engineer 1 to join their team in Tuscaloosa, AL. This position is responsible for applying engineering processes, design criteria, and software applications to the design and construction of power‑related systems. The Assignment Engineer 1 will support estimate preparation, develop design options, and prepare construction specifications. You will manage assigned work within a designated territory, ensuring the delivery of safe, reliable, timely, and economical electric service to residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
The role involves direct interaction with customers to determine electric service needs, engineering projects to improve system reliability, participating in large‑scale infrastructure projects, and supporting after‑hours and off‑system storm restoration efforts. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication, problem‑solving, and time‑management skills, and be committed to customer service, safety, and professional representation of the company. This is a full‑time, on‑site role with three open positions, starting February 9, 2026, and estimated to end December 1, 2028.
Candidates must be willing to live in or relocate to the Tuscaloosa area.
- Meet with customers to assess electric service needs and engineer solutions to provide service.
- Assist with engineering projects to improve reliability and perform routine maintenance on electrical distribution systems.
- Engineer large‑scale projects, including roadway relocations, planned infrastructure improvements, and residential subdivisions.
- Participate in after‑hours and off‑system storm restoration efforts as needed.
- Apply sound engineering practices to deliver reliable, economical, and timely electric service.
- Establish and maintain excellent customer relations throughout project life cycles.
- Take ownership of assigned work, ensuring compliance with safety and health regulations.
- Prepare estimates, develop design options, and create construction specifications for power‑related systems.
- Manage multiple projects and set priorities to meet deadlines and customer expectations.
- Represent the company professionally and uphold company policies, NESC, and NEC requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited university/college (required).
- 0–5 years of related engineering experience.
- Experience in engineering, design, and construction of electrical distribution systems (preferred).
- Familiarity with software applications such as CYME, JETS, CSS, DistGIS, SOCKET, ADMS/OMS (preferred).
- Knowledge of distribution design standards and practices (preferred).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and set priorities effectively.
- Strong problem‑solving and time‑management skills.
- Ability to make sound engineering decisions during emergency situations.
- Leadership skills and ability to represent the company professionally.
- Knowledge of company policies/procedures, NESC, and NEC requirements.
- Willingness to travel out of area/state for storm restoration activities.
- Professional representation of the company.
- Commitment to customer service and reliability.
- Ownership of assigned work and proactive problem‑solving.
- Must live in or relocate within a reasonable commute to Tuscaloosa, AL.
