Clinical Pharmacy Specialist - Oncology/Pharmacist

DCH Health System is looking for a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist to serve as a liaison between pharmacy staff and the Oncology Pharmacy Manager. The Oncology Pharmacy Clinician shall facilitate delivery of clinical services, ensure accurate drug information, and enhance clinical pharmacy services through education and protocol development.

• State and federal pharmacy laws and regulations.
• Assumes responsibilities of the Oncology Pharmacy Manager in absence.
• Develop and maintain area of clinical expertise in oncology.
• Develop and present educational topics and staff development programs.
• Design and deliver in‑service education for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
• Use effective patient education techniques to counsel patients and caregivers.
• Establish effective communication with pharmacy staff, other health care disciplines, and patients providing drug information.
• Manage time efficiently to maintain high productivity of all Oncology & Infusion Pharmacy Services staff through oversight of daily operations.
• Participate on hospital committees:
  Cancer Center Committee, Oncology Value Analysis Team, QOPI Committee, MD Anderson.
• Assist in acquisition of non‑formulary, compassionate use, and investigational medications.
• Design, recommend, monitor, and evaluate patient specific pharmacotherapeutic regimens.
• Monitor patient drug therapy to ensure efficacious, safe, and cost effective drug therapy.
• Promote rational and economic drug use through professional interactions with the medical staff and medical staff committees.
• Maintain clinical pharmacy rotation for students/residents; support resident research and scholarly activities.
• Document improvements in patient outcomes and cost containment; provide quarterly performance improvement report.
• Assist with performance evaluations and annual competencies as directed by Oncology Pharmacy Manager.
• Maintain policies and procedures related to clinical oncology pharmacy services.
• Maintain workload statistics and productivity parameters.
• Assist in training new employees and staff education (Clinical Updates).
• Assist in development and compliance with departmental budget.
• Provide supervision by process defined by leadership to unlicensed pharmacy students and interns.

• Current license to practice pharmacy in the State of Alabama or acquire license within 90 days.
• Must be an Alabama pharmacy preceptor or become a preceptor within six months.
• B.S. or Pharm.
  
  D. Degree required.
• Completion of an ASHP Accredited PGY1 required.
• ASHP Accredited PGY2 in Oncology or minimum of four years post graduate experience in direct patient care in an oncology care environment preferred.
• ACCP board certification (BCPS or BCOP) preferred.
• ACLS Certification preferred.
• Experience precepting and training pharmacy students and residents preferred.
• Membership in professional pharmacy organizations expected.
• Leadership experience preferred.
• Effective communication and supervisory skills required.
• Must have proficient reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.

• Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards.
• Compliance with Employee Handbook and DCH Behavioral Standards.
• Use of electronic mail, time & attendance software, learning management software, intranet.
• All other duties as assigned.
