Responsibilities- Leads troubleshooting and problem solving (equipment problems, QC issues, questionable results, etc.) with help from Pathologist; oversees corrective actions and result review.
- Monitors performance of all tests and procedures according to applicable protocols in the procedure manuals.
- Reviews and updates ensures review by the Administrative Supervisor and Pathologists; maintains CLSI format.
- Assists the Administrative Supervisor in directing, assigning, and scheduling staff to achieve high productivity and timely, accurate test results.
- Monitors punctuality and attendance; assists in time and attendance management.
- Ensures competency of all personnel through performance evaluation and documentation; provides input on employee evaluations.
- Evaluates instrumentation and new procedures; coordinates on‑site evaluation/validation/verification and set‑up of new instrumentation; serves as primary contact for training, troubleshooting, and instrument repair.
- Monitors compliance with fire, safety, infection control, and other hospital regulations.
- Trains new personnel; assigns mentors or serves as a clinical instructor for students; participates in continuing education courses.
- Stays current through professional journals, workshops, seminars, and lectures.
- Assists Laboratory Management with budget review, strategic planning, and equipment acquisition.
- Answers customer inquiries about test results, methodology, specificity, sensitivity, and interpretation; investigates complaints and initiates corrective action.
- Participates in ongoing quality and process improvement activities; promotes teamwork, engagement, and patient safety.
- Performs additional department‑specific duties as required.
- Minimum education:
bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science or biological science with certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Technologist, or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP preferred; AMT acceptable). - Minimum of three (3) years of certified laboratory experience; experience in laboratory quality management preferred.
- Demonstrated competency in assigned responsibilities through annual laboratory competency testing.
- Ability to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
- Must possess manual dexterity; able to stand, walk, sit for long periods and reach, bend, and lift up to 50 lb with frequent lifting of up to 20 lb.
- Vision and hearing must be normal or corrected; normal color vision required for color‑dependent tasks.
- Exposure to human body fluids, chemicals, and hazardous materials; protective equipment required; physical presence on site essential.
- Frequent interaction with colleagues, patients, and external customers; possible exposure to emotional or confrontational situations.
- Maintain performance, patient, and employee standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.
- Perform compliance requirements per the Employee Handbook.
- Adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards and maintain safety of patients, visitors, and employees.
- Identify and reduce unsafe practices; take appropriate action to promote safety.
- Use electronic mail, time‑attendance software, learning management software, and intranet.
- Adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures; perform all other duties as assigned.
