Job Summary
The Security Systems Technician II performs complex skilled work in the installation, maintenance, repair or operation of access control systems, security systems, IP video systems, and electronics.
Additional Department SummaryTroubleshoots and diagnoses security technology issues when they arise. Repairs and maintains the security technology equipment. Rotates being on-call with other technicians.
Pay and DepartmentPay Grade/Pay Range:
Minimum: $19.33 - Midpoint: $24.18 (Hourly N5)

Normal Work ScheduleMonday - Friday 7:30am to 4:30pm;
Some late night, early morning, or weekend work required occasionally
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of electrical or electronics experience; OR vocational/technical/trade school and three (3) year of experience in an electrical or electronic trade environment; OR associate s degree in electronics technology or electrical engineering and two (2) years of electrical or electronics experience; OR bachelor s degree or higher in electronics technology or electrical engineering
Additional Required DepartmentMinimum Qualifications
Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen. Must have valid U.S. driver s license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Skills and Knowledge- Knowledge of complex procedures in an electronics field.
- Working knowledge of test equipment such as multi-meters, digital analyzers, battery analyzers, frequency meter, decibel meters, and communicating devices.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow plans, specifications, blueprints/floor plans, and instructions.
- Ability to use independent judgment in completing assigned projects.
- Ability to analyze and solve complex problems.
- Ability to understand and operate computer software programs.
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
- Good planning and organizing skills.
- Must be detailed oriented.
- Must be able to work independently as well as work well as part of a team.
- Must be able to use industry standard hand tools at all heights; some services take place in lift trucks and tight spaces.
- Must be able to lift, handle, and maneuver the tools, materials, and supplies of the job.
- Must possess adaptability and flexibility.
- Have a student-customer focus. Have strong ethics and personal integrity.
- Must demonstrate excellent troubleshooting, critical thinking, problem-solving, and time management system analysis and evaluation skills.
- Ability to learn how to mentor, teach, or train others.
Previous team leader or supervisory experience. Seven (7) years or more experience in the security/fire/low voltage equipment industry. Experience with access control systems, IP Video systems, and IT networks. Experience with Lenel access systems, Avigilon Video systems, or other major industry manufacturers. Licensure with the Alabama Electronic Security Board.
