Overview
The Regional Quality Manager (RQM) is responsible for providing Quality Assurance guidance and support to their respective manufacturing locations. This includes indirect supervision or a strong dotted line reporting structure between the RQM and plant quality personnel. The RQM provides quality related guidance directly to plant quality personnel and works with plant management to help them understand how their plants are performing relative to quality requirements, identifying areas of opportunity and implementing solutions.
The RQM collaborates with plant quality representatives to evaluate quality metrics, including Cost of Poor Quality (CoPQ), and may participate as part of a factory-led team or lead events. The role supports QMS compliance, participates in and/or leads third-party and customer audits, RCCA reviews and approvals, and contract reviews. The incumbent must understand welding processes used at each site and distinguish between quality requirements across divisions, market channels, design types and applicable welding and inspection standards.
The RQM has stop-work authority as it pertains to non-conforming product.
- This position reports into the Vice President of Concrete and has no direct reports
- This role requires travel to the different concrete plants throughout North America. Travel is expected to be approximately 25%–50%
- Assess all quality metrics to identify opportunities to reduce cost (e.g., CoPQ, FPY, field issues)
- Provide overall QA guidance to manufacturing site quality personnel
- Guide and support QC teams at respective manufacturing plants to recognize, prevent, and correct defects before they reach the customer
- Provide containment, root cause, and corrective action guidance to respective plants
- Work with plant quality personnel to understand and evaluate quality metrics
- Provide guidance to plant management regarding plant performance as it relates to quality
- Ensure standardized inspection processes are in place at manufacturing sites
- Ensure inspection requirements are clearly communicated to the QC teams, including inspector certification requirements
- Investigate customer complaints and implement or issue corrective actions as needed
- Support QMS compliance
- Lead and/or assist with customer and third-party audits
- Review and approve quality-related RCCAs
- Participate in contract/specification reviews
- Assist with R&D efforts for new products or designs, specifically developing inspection criteria
- Assist with the MOC (Management of Change) process for quality-related items
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, as needed

- Must possess effective human relations and communication skills to work with all levels of administrative and operations teams across divisions, internal/external customers, auditors, and inspectors

Skills and Abilities

- Bachelor’s degree with 6 years of relevant experience, or associate’s degree with 8 years of relevant experience, or 10 years of relevant experience
- Previous supervisory experience in a production or Quality Assurance role in a fabrication environment
- Experience in the concrete industry
- Familiar with QC concrete testing methods and NDT methods
- Ability to interpret production drawings and specifications to distinguish conforming from non-conforming products
- Comfortable interpreting specifications and communicating best judgement regularly
- Above-average proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other programs
- Ability to disseminate industry-specific information to QC personnel in an understandable way
- Six Sigma Green Belt
- Bachelor’s or associate degree
- Six Sigma Black Belt
- Prestressed Concrete Institute or American Concrete Institute Quality certifications
