Job SummaryThe Geological Sciences Researcher II oversees geological science research projects and assumes responsibility for the day-to-day activity supporting project. Makes significant contributions to the planning and design of research and creative projects. Assists in short- and long-term planning and project goals. May assist with research and creative proposals and dissemination of project findings.
RequiredMinimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of geological sciences or closely related research experience; OR master's degree and two (2) years of geological sciences or closely related research experience; OR doctoral degree and some geological sciences or closely related research experience. Post-Baccalaureate degree is highly preferred (Master’s degree or higher).
Skills and KnowledgeKnowledge of scientific computing, data assimilation, and machine learning frameworks. Proficiency in writing clean, efficient, and well-documented code. Mathematics including linear algebra and partial differential equations. Ability to implement software solutions based on technical specifications provided by researchers. Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred QualificationsPhD in Geology, Geography, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or a related quantitative field. Expertise in modeling geophysical systems. Strong proficiency in machine learning libraries such as PyTorch. Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative software development.
