Job Summary: The Postdoctoral Fellow provides an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after the candidate has earned a PhD or other doctoral degree, working under the guidance of a senior faculty mentor.

Department Summary:

Applications are requested for a 2‑year postdoctoral fellowship as part of a research project funded by NOAA’s Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in Hydrology (CIROH). Theابر research is conducted at the Environmental Remote Sensing Laboratory in the UA Department of Geography and the Environment. The postdoctoral scholar will lead the development and application of sediment‑remote‑sensing algorithms and foundational models, and will coordinate remote‑sensing and field‑data acquisition and processing.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in geography, soil science, hydrology, civil engineering or a related discipline, completed by the start of employment.
  • Research expertise in geospatial AI, deep‑learning foundation models, hydrology, or river science.

Candidates must submit a cover letter and curriculum vitae, and provide at least two references in the application’s reference section. Additional materials (published papers, software tools, etc.) may be uploaded in the “other documents” tab.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with water‑remote sensing.
  • Proficiency in Python programming, GeoAI, and deep‑learning foundation models.
  • Drone or field‑work experience, including drone and boat‑based surveys.
