Research Scientist
The Patra Lab at UA ( ) is seeking a curious and motivated student to join our group in the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alabama, starting in Fall 2026. We are broadly interested in pioneering smart, practical, and accessible solutions to enhance indoor air quality, particularly in managing indoor atmospheric particulate matter, including nanoparticles.
The projects will involve using state-of-the-art, real-time aerosol characterization instruments, developing new particle characterization techniques, and innovating novel filter materials for HVAC and air purifier applications. This interdisciplinary research aims to create healthier, more resilient built environments capable of autonomously mitigating indoor air pollution.
A background in Architectural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or other closely related fields is desirable but not required. A master’s degree is also preferred but not mandatory. The position will be funded through research and teaching assistantships for the duration of the studies (approximately four years).
