Overview
Apply for the Tuscumbia Feed Mill Maintenance 3rd Shift role at Pilgrim's. 3rd Shift: 4:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.
ResponsibilitiesThe team member is given an area of responsibility in which they must show evidence of mechanical attitude and display improvement in skill and knowledge in two or more areas, while following safety procedures and maintaining good housekeeping habits.
- Hook up single‑ and three‑phase motors per the connection data.
- Identify a “burned up” motor.
- Run single‑phase circuits (household wiring).
- Check fuses and reset/replace thermal heater units.
- Use an amp probe, volt meter, and continuity tester.
- Replace magnetic starters, safety switches, and H.O.A. (hand off automatic) Switches.
- Follow lock out procedures.
Plumbing
- Know different sizes and compositions of piping and their applications.
- Know common types of fittings for pipe and tube.
- Install pipes with minimum flow restrictions and no leaks.
- Read different gauges and meters used in the mill.
- Understand pumps (positive displacement and centrifugal).
Mechanical
- Know size and types of conveyor, power transmission chains; separate, replace, repair.
- Know size and types of belts, power transmission chains; replace or repair; includes roll pulleys and tensioners.
- Learn general lubrication requirements.
Welding and Cutting
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain good housekeeping habits.
- Make serviceable welds on steel and aluminum with electric welder; use suitable electrode, flux, preparation and procedure.
- Know proper welding applications in the mill.
- Use a cutting torch.
- Soft solder.
- Identify hot‑rolled, cold‑rolled, stainless or coated steel.
Shop Tools
- Use drill press, fixed and portable grinders, arbor and hydraulic presses, bending brakes and tools, vises, etc.
- Maintain own tools and keep work area clean.
- Know personnel protective equipment requirements.
- Use and follow a blueprint or similar drawing after explanation or advance review.
Educational
- Reference startup procedures and preventative maintenance procedures for the area.
- Read material currently available on the assigned area.
- Work with maintenance men who know the area and have more experience with equipment.
- Answer calls to the assigned area (first priority) but work outside that area on other calls as needed.
- Return production to optimal speed as soon as possible; replace defective part with a new one (rebuilt) and carry the rest to the maintenance room.
- Handle repaired parts; send off for specialized repairs when necessary; discard parts when cost of repair exceeds cost of new or unrecoverable.
End of Day
- Communicate the day’s events with incoming maintenance personnel.
- Sweep and clean the maintenance shop; clean off work tables of debris; return unused parts to the parts room.
- File all paperwork generated during the day, including machinery performance, preventive maintenance forms, order forms; if not to be filed, give to Maintenance Manager.
- Clean off individual locker; store everything away.
- Lift at least 100 lbs. from floor level to heights above head, at least 30 times in a 3‑hour period.
- Walk distances exceeding 100 feet one‑way at least 30 times in a 3‑hour period; cover area >5 acres.
- Ascend and descend staircases with at least 30 treads at least 30 times in a 3‑hour duration.
- Work in confined or restricted areas for at least 3 hours in a duration.
- Work in wet conditions with temperatures ranging below 0 °F and above 95 °F for not less than 10 hours at a time.
