The Central Alabama Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHCS) located in Tuskegee, AL is searching for a BE/BC Internal Medicine/Family Medicine Physician or completion of a Geriatric Fellowship to join their leadership team as the Medical Director of the Nursing Home-Community Living Center NHCLC.
The Medical Director of the NHCLC is accountable to the ACOS/GEC&R or designee for the coordination and oversight of clinical and administrative activities in the NHCLC. The director is responsible for performance improvement activities in the NHCLC.
He/she directs and supervises clinical activities of the NHCLC nurse practitioners. The director devotes eighty percent (80%) of time to direct patient care, serve as a role model for peers.
The physician is responsible for the oversight and coordination of process improvement initiatives, assuring teamwork, and addressing customer service issues in the clinic. The position includes broad management and administrative responsibilities.
Responsibilities- The director provides comprehensive assessment, diagnostic work-up and clinic intervention, including comprehensive patient assessment, health history, physical examination, and patient education to veterans in the NHCLC setting.
- The director functions as an integral part of NHCLC multi-disciplinary team to coordinate, facilitate, and provide patient care and services.
- The director discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to establish a diagnosis and initiate appropriate response to emergency health problems.
- The director initiates appropriate referrals and consultations to other clinical services.
- The director orders and evaluates diagnostic tests as appropriate, recommends treatment and/or referral.
- The director validates the effectiveness of previously implemented medical treatment.
- The director initiates, evaluates, and changes orders for medication.
- The director includes patient and family in planning care and establishing realistic measurable goals for health maintenance/improvement.
- The director records/documents health appraisal information, clinical assessments, treatment decisions, plan of care, ongoing management and therapeutic outcomes, order medications, diagnostic tests and referral consultations where needed for every patient encounter, recording will be accomplished using the electronic comprehensive patient record system CPRS, and will be completed on the day of the encounter.
- The director responds to computerized alerts indicating diagnostic test abnormalities and to health line requests from veterans and family members on the day of receipt (weekends excepted).
- The physician follows Performance Measures guidelines, including completion of clinical reminders in CPRS, access and timelines standards, prescriptions order entry, National VA formulary requirements, and customer service standards.
- The physician works effectively with patients, families, members of the multi-disciplinary team, and other CAVHCS staff.
- He/she demonstrates flexibility in responding to clinic demands, adhere to personal and professional obligations and responsibilities, practice and maintain ethical standards, and sustain a work environment that is harmonious and customer service oriented.
- The physician should promote all NHCLC initiatives.
Full Time. 8 a.m.
- 4:30 p.m. (Monday - Friday). On-call if required, alternating one week on and one off.
Relocation Expense: Relocation expenses are authorized for this position. The Department of Veterans Affairs offers Permanent Change of Station (PCS) relocation services.
SalarySalary Range: Up to $210,000 per year
