Water Services Aide; Maintenance Aide; Part-time

The City of Tustin is seeking a part-time Water Services Aide to join the Public Works Department. A successful candidate will be reliable, willing to learn, and motivated to take on the tasks presented. Incumbents will perform a variety of unskilled to semi-skilled manual labor tasks related to the maintenance and repair of the City's water distribution system.

Given that this is a part-time, at-will, non-benefitted position, hours will be limited to less than 1,000 hours per fiscal year. Hours worked may vary significantly from week to week.

The Tustin Public Works Department is responsible for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of all public infrastructure and public right-of-way.

Application materials will be carefully reviewed to identify candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for the position. Those who are best qualified will be invited to participate in a panel interview.

• Removes and installs water meters
• Manually digs and backfills trenches and holes to facilitate installation and repair of water systems
• Locates, inspects, and investigates water lines and sources of leaks; assists in repairing leaks when necessary
• Assists in the installation, repair, and maintenance of various water system appurtenances, including pipes, mains, meters, and valves
• Responds to emergency calls for maintenance and repair activities
• Operates a wide variety of hand and power tools and equipment; observes proper safety precautions and complies with Cal-OSHA personal and equipment safety regulations
• Operates motor vehicles in a safe manner
• Maintains and organizes work area to ensure a clean and safe working environment; maintains and cleans assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment
• Completes basic activity records and reports
• Assists the public with directions, questions regarding City regulations, and other basic inquiries as needed

A combination of education, experience, and training that has provided the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities is required for entry into the classification. A typical combination includes graduation from high school or equivalent; and six (6) months of experience in general maintenance work.

Possession of a Class C California driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. Receive satisfactory results from a background investigation, physical examination, and administrative screening.
