Position: Operation Hero Program Facilitator
Overview

Position: Operation Hero Program Facilitator — Armed Services YMCA National Headquarters

Part time: 12-15 hours per week

Non-Exempt

Pay: $18-$21 DOE

Position Summary

The Operation Hero Facilitator is responsible for the implementation of the Operation Hero program and the direct supervision of school-age children (grades K-6). This position models and teaches the Armed Services YMCA’s values and ensures military youth are provided fun and meaningful activities to promote learning and caring for others. The 29 Palms ASYMCA program provides two tracks to this program: an Art Track and a Sports Track.

Candidate must be able to provide instruction on both tracks.

The schedule for this position is Monday-Thursday, with 1.0 hour of prep and 2.0 hours of teaching each day, for an estimated total of 12 hours per week. The offering typically follows the district school year calendar.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implement the Operation Hero program.
  • Instruct Operation Hero four days per week.
  • Prepare curriculum and coordinate art/activities, games, and lessons with current week’s theme.
  • Provide and participate in age-appropriate exercise, movement and outdoor activity play with supervision.
  • Plan and assemble any needed resources, decorations, toys, etc. for the classroom. Submit purchase orders, receipts, and reimbursement forms to the Executive Director on a monthly basis.
  • Arrange materials as needed for each day 30 minutes to 1 hour prior to the start of class.
  • Ensure program begins and ends on time and meets lesson plan guidelines.
  • Take accurate attendance of students and ensure they meet the military child requirements; log attendance and submit at the end of each week.
  • Ensure an organized, safe, and clean program space for the children.
  • Announce ASYMCA events, information, and programs to each class.
  • Direct Military Volunteers who assist with program execution.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED required with a minimum of 1 year in supervised programmatic child care. College degree or CDA credentials focusing on child development or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be substituted.
  • Successfully pass background checks.
  • Prior experience working with children required.
  • Availability 8:00-1:00 M-Th. This job does not require entire length of time as class session times may change each quarter.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required within 15 days of hire.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in writing reports and lesson plans.
  • Able to identify and respond properly to various childcare situations (e.g., illness, abuse).
  • Able to present a professional and positive demeanor.
  • Highly self-motivated and able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
  • Able to pass a background check.
  • Occasionally lifts, carries and balances objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Adhere to ASYMCA’s organization procedures and policies.
  • Ensure the YMCA core values (responsibility, respect, caring, and honesty) are incorporated into the facilitation and curriculum of programming.
