Assistant Quantity Surveyor

An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join the Thames team, part of Galliford Try. In this role, you will support the Framework Commercial team and collaborate closely with Pre-Construction, Design, and Delivery colleagues. You will play a key role in the commercial administration, reporting, and performance of a single large project or several smaller schemes.
What you’ll be doing :- Contribute to creating and maintaining a safe and inclusive working environment.
- Prepare subcontract documentation, including negotiating terms and conditions, pricing, and programme requirements.
- Assist in the management of subcontract work packages, including interim assessments and change management.
- Produce and issue commercial notices to clients and subcontractors in accordance with the contract.
- Support timely change management activities, including the preparation and submission of Compensation Event Quotations.
- Prepare, submit, and support agreement of monthly applications to the client.
- Collaborate with operational and engineering teams to ensure site records are accurate and compliant.
- Produce and present detailed monthly reports and Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
- Maintain detailed cost plans, including expenditure tracking, forecasting, subcontractor liabilities, and Oracle-based cost analysis.
- Review and interpret expenditure reports from internal systems.
- Participate in weekly progress and risk reduction meetings with clients and subcontractors.
- Prepare clear and accurate reports for clients as required.
- A relevant degree and/or experience within a commercial or construction environment.
- Professional qualification such as MCIOB or MRICS is desirable (Incorporated membership or working towards full membership welcomed).
- Experience working on large projects or multiple smaller schemes.
- CSCS card (appropriate to role).
- Good understanding of standard forms of contract.
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Excel, Word, and contractual/cost management systems (e.g., CEMAR, Oracle).
- Effective stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of construction processes.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills.
