Job Description & How to Apply Below

We are seeking a clinically qualified educator to lead the Clinical & Professional Practice (CPP) module within Phase 1 of our MBBS programme. This role is central to shaping students early clinical experiences, professional identity formation, and foundational skills in patient care. The successful candidate will bring clinical credibility, educational leadership, and a commitment to embedding human values and social purpose into medical training.

The CPP Module runs through Phase 1 (years 1-2) and Phase 2 (years 3-5). In Year I the focus of CPP is on developing the attributes and behaviours required for a safe and effective clinician, understanding the concept of professional practice within the healthcare team and developing communication skills with patients, carers, and healthcare professionals. In Year 1 students will start building competency in practical procedures and clinical and communication skills.

In Year 2 students will advance their communication skills with patients, carers, and healthcare professionals. Throughout Year 3 and 4, work-place based assessments will reinforce the students professional identity as a doctor, and the Module will refine evidence-based medicine skills and application of knowledge from IASCM and Med Soc modules to further develop practical skills. The Transition to Practice of Year 5will bring together these clinical and professional skills and competencies, in preparation for Foundation years for MBBS graduates.

Main

duties of the job

The key responsibilities of the post will be the leadership, management and co-delivery of CPP module content throughout the MBBS programme in accordance with the GMC regulations, University requirements, and the SoM contingent partner ULAN. The role addresses all aspects of the CPP module through the entire MBBS, including teaching, digital learning, assessment and student support. The post holder will work closely with the SoM leadership team and will have line management responsibility for staff delivering CPP teaching.

They will lead on CPP curriculum adaptation and design, practical demonstrations, development and delivery of teaching, assessment and evaluation. They will work closely with the Phase 1 and 2 Leads and the Director of Undergraduate Medicine to ensure continuity and alignment of CPP across both Phases and with the other MBBS modules (IASCM, and Med Soc). The postholder will collaborate to demonstrate links between these modules and the application of sciences to clinical work, for example in interprofessional learning and work, and the principles and practice of informed consent.

The postholder should be adept at using digital technology, completing work-based assessments and supporting tutors in adopting these teaching and assessment approaches. The postholder should also understand equal opportunity issues as they may impact on academic content and issues relating to students needs.
