Position Overview
Juvenile Detention Officer (Male) – full‑time, hourly wage $21.72 located in Twin Falls County, recruitment; applicants are not notified immediately after applying. Shift schedule: 6:00 am – 6:00 pm and 6:00 pm – 6:00 am, rotating 12‑hour shifts. Must be willing to work weekend and holiday shifts.
Responsibilities- Monitor inmate activities to ensure safety, security, and compliance with policies and procedures.
- Process new inmates into the center: verify charges and documents, conduct fingerprinting, photography, physical search, drug/alcohol testing, prepare documents, enter data, assign housing, issue clothing, orient inmates, and perform booking duties.
- Coordinate inmate scheduling for court and hearing appearances, evaluations, interviews, and related events.
- Perform release duties: check court orders and related paperwork, log release data, and follow release procedures and protocols; may include installation of electronic monitoring equipment.
- Monitor and log inmate incoming and outgoing mail, telephone calls, and visitation, ensuring they meet established protocols.
- Maintain facility security by patrolling secure areas within and around the detention center, following policies, procedures, and timetables.
- Conduct physical searches of inmates and their rooms to maintain security.
- Monitor inmate behavior in housing, classroom, exercise, dining, recreation areas, and other secure spaces.
- Log inmate activities and movements during education sessions, recreation, cleaning, mealtimes, showers, and interactions with teachers, officers, and counselors.
- Administer disciplinary actions and hold inmates accountable for violations, following facility policies.
- Perform observation checks on inmates in cells at prescribed intervals, especially for those on medical, suicide, or other status requiring more frequent checks.
- Conduct census counts to determine facility population and verify inmate attendance.
- Take inventory of items and equipment (e.g., utensils, keys, radios) at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Perform interior and perimeter security checks, including monitoring security cameras.
- Transport and escort inmates within the facility and to court hearings, legal proceedings, and other designated appearances.
- Pick up, transport, and serve inmate meals.
- Deliver medications to inmates and supervise medication administration.
- Supervise inmate hygiene practices, including showers, clean clothing, laundry, and procedures to prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
- Identify ill or injured inmates, obtain medical assistance when needed, and transport them for medical attention.
- Participate in ongoing training covering emergency responses, drills, escape procedures, inmate disturbances, and related incidents.
- Perform all duties in accordance with federal, state, county, and department statutes, laws, ordinances, policies, procedures, and safety practices.
- Respond to commissioners, officials, county employees, and citizens with courteous and timely communication.
