Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Leads or supports the mechanical design and integration of electromagnetic rotating machines (e.g., AC/DC motors, synchronous and asynchronous generators).
- Develops and validate mechanical components such as stators, rotors, laminations, end caps, bearings, and housings.
- Prepares detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and bills of materials for rotating machinery.
- Conducts mechanical analyses to optimize performance and reliability.
- Collaborates with electrical engineers to ensure seamless electromagnetic and mechanical integration.
- Participates in material selection, particularly for laminations, shaft, magnetic and structural components.
- Develops and supports qualification plans, prototype builds, and verification/validation testing (including core loss measurement, vibration testing, and environmental testing).
- Ensures all mechanical designs meet industry and SAFRAN standards (e.g., FAA, EASA, MIL-STD).
- Supports manufacturing, assembly, and troubleshooting of rotating machines on the shop floor; resolve technical issues.
- Contributes to root‑cause investigations and corrective actions following test or operational failures.
- Drive continuous improvement and innovation in rotating machine design, manufacturing, and testing processes.
- Mentors junior engineers and provides technical guidance as needed.
- Adheres to all safety protocols and 5S guidelines.
- Adheres to safe work practices and contributes to the evolution of the health, safety, and environmental program and culture.
- Travel requirements:
Occasional travel both domestically in the U.S. and internationally – up to 10%. - Other duties may be assigned.
- Evening/night hours may be required.
- Extra hours may be required during business peaks.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience with mechanical design and support of electromagnetic rotating machines in aerospace or related industries.
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD (e.g., CATIA, Solid Works), GD&T, and mechanical analysis (FEA tools such as ANSYS).
- Solid understanding of material properties relevant to electrical machines (magnetics, thermal, structural).
- Experience in testing and validation of generators, motors, or similar equipment.
- Knowledge of electromagnetic principles and how they intersect with mechanical design.
- Familiarity with aerospace standards and regulatory requirements (FAA/EASA, MIL-STD, DO-160, etc.).
- Effective communicator and team player, with proven problem‑solving abilities.
- Proficient in MS Office.
- Ability to interpret complex information and convey a simplified message to team members of varying technical expertise.
