Distribution Project Engineer
As a Distribution Project Engineer at HDR, you will support the delivery of medium voltage power distribution projects, helping design and implement reliable electrical systems.
Responsibilities- Work under the direction of Project Manager(s).
- Conduct analyses to develop design options, perform modeling and/or calculations, and prepare design sketches and concept drawings for medium voltage overhead and underground power systems.
- Work with Designers and CAD Technicians to develop construction drawings in accordance with national design standards, safety codes and project specifications and requirements.
- Assist with preparing cost estimates or specifications.
- Participate in field reviews or construction observation.
- Design electrical layouts, cable heating calculations, fuse coordination, overhead and underground design, and development of bill of materials, while considering construction requirements.
- Occasional short‑term travel (typically 1-5 days) may be necessary; longer term assignments (several weeks) may be required occasionally.
- Conduct QA/QC on the work of other Distribution Project Engineers or Distribution Coordinators.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Minimum of four years experience related to medium‑voltage or distribution‑level design.
- Experience using engineering software for medium voltage design or analysis such as CYMCAP, CYMEDIST, Milsoft Windmil, PLS‑Pole, SKM, and/or other related tools.
- Graduate degree or certificate in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems.
- Experience in the medium voltage design of large industrial facilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Auto Pipe, and Revit).
