General

Summary:

This Joint Use Engineer Tech/Design position will collaborate with project teams to create high-quality designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of projects including pole loading, stress analysis, and clearance-based design. While implementing various phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical designs, report preparation, specifications, and preparation of proposal and construction documentation and electrical plans as part of a team, the candidate will work with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Using pole loading and clearance design software for client projects after being trained.
  • Work with Engineers to implement design changes into the system.
  • Plan and drawings for production work including problem analysis, design layout, and calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
  • Execute a variety of electrical design assignments using the client’s distribution standard drawings and comply with NESC procedures.
  • Execute changes to designs or sketches and redlines or mark‑ups on ongoing projects.
  • Analyze reports, drawings, and tests to plan and design projects.
  • Interpret and incorporate design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
  • Review design drawings for quality assurance within scope, budget, and schedule. Perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines.
  • Work with leaders and team members to facilitate/support internal change efforts to increase organizational effectiveness.
  • Assist with the set‑up of projects in applicable project management systems.
  • Assisting with developing proposals, work plans, budgets, and project scheduling and managing each deliverable will be required.
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining project files and client deliverables and project communications.
  • Responsible for accurate data entry on projects.
  • Above all, a tenacious work ethic is a necessity.

    Desired Skills
    • Understanding of design software such as O‑Calc, SPIDA Calc, or other stress‑analysis software to develop the design deliverables, is preferred.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with others including, but not limited to Project Managers, Engineers, and other Designers in a multi‑discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.
    • Knowledge of design, calculations, and design systems.
    • Knowledge of the theory and practices of assigned discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline.
    • Capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.
    • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple tasks.
    • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, and attention to detail.
    • Commitment to working within a highly collaborative team.
    Education and Experience Requirements Engineer-Tech/Designer I
    • Must currently be eligible to work in the United States of America.
    • High School Graduate or GED, required.
    • College degree or some college course, preferred.
    • Entry‑Level Position; 0‑2 years of utility design experience.
    • Willingness to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.
